I am a Boston visual artist exploring form in two and three dimensions. My work involves ideas about perception: what we see, and in what order, and how images relate to one other. And then, what they evoke in the individual who views them.
I am drawn to simplicity. I’m inspired by some artists who work, or worked, primarily in black and white or incorporated primary colors but used them sparingly: Mondrian, Richard Serra, Louise Nevelson, Ellsworth Kelly, Franz Kline, Joel Shapiro. Nevertheless, Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh are my heroes.
While I am relatively new to a committed practice, I have been working toward this moment in my life for many years. I chose an education in the liberal arts (The University of Michigan, Literature) and briefly attended art school (Michigan) but then moved to Boston to pursue a career in business. I experimented with various media at different times yet never thought of my artmaking as simply a hobby or avocation. On the other hand, I knew that to be an artist would require serious focus, and I quite frankly lacked the courage to do that.
Things change. What you see, now, represents my decision to be public with my sensibility. Thank you for considering my work.
